By preventing air vacuums it is designed to prevent drain water from siphoning back into the dishwasher. There s a simple way to troubleshoot the washing machine to see if the pump is the reason your washing machine isn t draining. All you need to do is straighten the hose and the washing machine should drain without any problem. While it s certainly possible to replace the washer pump lid switch or belts yourself you may choose to have a professional make those repairs instead.

If water comes out of the air gap when you run the dishwasher and sometimes all over the counter the blockage is between the air gap and the garbage. Washing machine drain pump clogged or faulty. This would hinder water flow to and from the appliance resulting in a washer that starts the spin cycle but never picks up speed and doesn t drain water. It isn t that difficult to access the insides of a washing machine to service the motor and that may be what you have. Check for a valve bracket.

Most but not all dishwashers have a drain valve that keeps water from draining back into the dishwasher. Fixing this will require you to turn machine over on its side to examine the belt. The pump is operated by a drive belt that fits around pulleys on the bottom of the washing machine motor. There could be a foreign object that is stuck in the pump and inside the drain hose.

If this belt is broken or isn t tight on the pulleys the washing machine will have difficulty draining or may not drain at all.
